“Before string bands were a “thing” in popular culture, there was the Hackensaw Boys. Before The Avett Brothers were selling out arenas, before Mumford & Sons were becoming the biggest band in music in a given year, before everybody and their brother was growing a beard and wearing suspenders and playing in jug bands, the Hackensaw Boys were mixing bluegrass and old time music with a punk attitude, and reshaping what a modern old school string band could sound like.”

Bob Zentz & Jeanne McDougall Zentz
"Bob Zentz began performing professionally in his native Norfolk, Virginia, in 1962, in "The Troubadours," with James Lee Stanley. In his college years, Bob was a founding member of The College of William & Mary's "Minutemen" singers from 1962-64, and president of the Old Dominion College Folk Music Society from 1965-66...
Two of the most storied songwriters of the 20th century praised Bob's work, each in his own way. Upon hearing Bob's first release, Mirrors and Changes, country legend Johnny Cash was moved to send the young artist an encouraging letter, saying, "Mirrors and Changes ... is one of the finest works I've heard by any artist." And in 2007, at a symposium at the Library of Congress' American Folklife Center honoring members of the Seeger family for their contributions to American music, music legend and humanitarian Pete Seeger asked Bob, "Are you still writing those good songs? Your songs get around!""

"...often self-written country-folk songs, led by Brent Gable on deeply resonant vocals and guitar, Michael Munden playing masterful mandolin, and Gable’s lovely daughter Coleman Senecal providing sweet-sounding, twangy vocals and fiddle. A solid performance, highlights were the harmonies of Gable and daughter Coleman and the quality of Gable’s original songs." - Ron Wray, NoDepression.com

"Ring is the kind of guitarist who makes fledgling finger pickers angry. He's just too good, too fast, too crisp. How can the rest of us pull off that mess of blues?" -Tad Dickens,The Roanoke Times

“...Seph Custer has been lighting up the stage lately, playing between 100 and 120 shows a year. In addition to playing acoustic and slide guitar with several groups, as well as in his solo act, he also sits in with a number of musicians to play mandolin (one of his personal favorites), banjo, bass, ukulele, fiddle, or dobro. When he’s not playing on the stage, he works at The Harvester Performance Center in Rocky Mount as a truck unloader, stage assistant, and runner, and has had the opportunity to work some prominent shows including Merle Haggard in 2015.”
